What are the necessary components of a plasmid?
The plasmid used for cloning and expression usually including three major components:
1. Replicon: Also known as the replication initiation region, it contains genetic factors that control the origin of plasmid DNA replication and plasmid copy number.
2. Selection marker: The selection marker encoded by the plasmid gives the host cell a new phenotype and is used to identify and screen the host cell transformed with the plasmid.
3. Multiple cloning sites:
Plasmids are small circular DNA molecules. As the most commonly used and simplest vector in genetic engineering.
