Can We Predict the Next Pandemic Virus?

India reported 346,786 new infections of SARS-CoV-2 last Friday, setting a new world record for COVID-19 case number. As we are suffering from this painful outbreak, many may consider whether we can predict next threatening virus to avoid future pandemic. However, researchers have found it much harder than most people's thinking, as we are predicting based on tiny data sets which are also highly biased towards those already known to zoonotic.
