Virtually during our childhood, we all had heard about the story of Tooth Fairy, a fantasy figure who would visit us and replace our lost tooth with a small gift under the pillow. However, when we become an adult, losing a tooth is no longer something to look forward to, knowing that we are unlikely to get a new one during our remaining lifetime.
In order to bring hopes to adults who lose teeth, researchers from the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine have explored the genetic mechanism laying behind morphogenesis of individual teeth and have developed an approach for tooth regeneration therapy.
