Team Description
Hello everyone, This is our CAU_iGEM team. We are from China Agricultural University. Our team aims at producing siRNA pesticide on inhibiting grasshopper growth. Due to the locusts plague in east Africa, peasants are suffering from agricultural products reducing heavily. However, this plague is still continuing without any trends of slowing down. It seems that the plague is just like pandemic of nCOVID-19 tending to sweep Africa and Asia. It is said that the plague has swept across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and some Asian country like Pakistan. According to statisics from department of agriculture, millions of people are suffering from the influence of plague and UNFAO(United Nations of Food and Agriculture Organization) is raising 76million dollars on aiding. Our project is trying to produce a siRNA pesticide on regulating locusts population. Combining with method of light-control system, we insert light-induced system asLOV in yeast strain in which dsRNA is synthesized when the 450nm light turns off. When the light turned on, yeast could produce by-product like ribose, ethnol or isobutanol. Light control system has various advantages comparing to traditional chemical induce system. Light control system has real-time, instant, handleability and low-toxity. Based on this, light-control system has great potential in the future manufacture produce.
